Spring Cleaning: Going Green with LED Bulbs

Today's spring cleaning tip could save you some serious green, not to mention being a little kinder to Mother Earth.  And who doesn't like saving money?! When LED bulbs first came out I was quite skeptical about their cost.  Would the cost at least equal the life of the bulb plus the energy saved? As time went on, the LED bulb option became more affordable, not to mention a better option for us as a family.  Between my kids and husband leaving lights on, we needed all the help we could get!

The facts on LED lights had me sold.  Using 75% less energy, lasting 13-22 years and saving between $35-$151 on energy cost over the life of the bulb.  How could I ever buy another halogen bulb again?Even if the price was a bit more than the standard bulb, the lifespan alone paid for itself time and time again!  It also helps that retailers like Target have great sales on these bulbs, increasing the incentive to buy more LEDs and save in the long run.

I have converted almost our entire house to LED bulbs.  I began with areas that were most likely to see a lot of traffic; bedrooms, desks, and main living spaces.  As time has gone by, I have branched out to our kitchen.  Next up to be replaced, the bathrooms.

What types of light bulbs do you use in your home?  Are you on the fence about switching from halogen to LED?  Share your thoughts with me, I would love to hear!
